The Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS), India that as an autonomous organization has been addressing interesting ideas through research and activities, thus hosted an interesting webinar on “A Tale of Bicycler: Hungary to Darjeeling” on 25th May, 2022 to know about interesting aspects of the bicycle expedition of Viktor Zicho – a Bike Traveller, Passionate climber, Mountaineer, Photographer and Videographer of Hungary. The event was also attended by Dr. Satyabrata Chakrabarti, General Secretary, The Asiatic Society, Kolkata as well as Amb. Kumar Tuhin, Director General, ICCR, New Delhi and also Former Ambassador of India to Hungary. The event started with the address by the Distinguished Chair of the event Dr. Satyabrata
Chakrabarti, General Secretary, The Asiatic Society, Kolkata who shared interesting facts from life journey of Alexander Csoma Expedition – who was the first one to carry out a bicycle travelogue from Hungary to Darjeeling 200 years back. Followed to which Amb. Kumar Tuhin mentioned that India and Hungary has a history of shared relations and such initiatives taken by Viktor would further boost the friendly relation between two geographies.
The Distinguished Speaker, through a power point presentation, added that bi-cycle ride was a greenest form of expedition and explore Alexander Csoma’s experiences that he had around 200
years back. But now things have changed and connectivity have become much easier, but there were other challenges that he came across, especially pandemic and financial troubles. But the experience remained extremely scenic and worth remembering. The speaker described his programme map and mentioned about the support that he received from regions and especially India.
The webinar remained an interesting one and the participants had a chance to communicate with the Distinguished Speaker. Finally the event marked its conclusion with a Vote of Thanks by Sri Arindam Mukherjee, Director, The Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS), Kolkata.
