Neighbourhood Studies
The Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS),India has led itself to a journey of identifications of India’s Culture and economic relations with countries of South Asia. The Institute’s chapter on Neighbourhood Studies tries to deepen the chapters interaction by exploring the nature of the culture and economic relations between India and countries of the region not only in their past but their relevance to the present. It emphasizes the tradition of connectivity and mutual reconciliation between various cultures, a tradition of the countries of the region which was strengthened by close contact with India both in the ancient and medieval period. It also notes the challenges to these traditions through influence of fundamentalism, globalization, security caveats and upsurge of technological and digital mediums. In other words the chapter details about the emerging multi dimensional links and their variations between India and South East Asia through variety of sub-regional groupings, foreign policies,Indo-Pacific strategic needs, sustainability issues through local autonomies ,inter cultural, educational matters. That are causing a transformational experience and their livelihood practices amongst the multi-lingual and multi-ethnic society of the region across.
